Books : The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ

1. The Mount of Transfiguration takes place on a Mountain. Six months before Jesus’s death, Jesus and Peter, James, and John go to the Mountain, too pray. Jesus’s pray was answer by Mose and Elijah appearing in Glory. Mose and Elijah appear in priestly robes and the mountain acts as a temporary temple.

2. Mose and Elijah appear before the Lord on the Mountain. Peter, James, and John receive priesthood keys from Mose (law giver, gathering of Israel) and Elijah (sealing power, voice of the prophets, fire from heaven). Mose and Elijah spoke to Jesus about his death, resurrection, mission in Jerusalem, and ascension back into the presence of Elohim, celestial glory.

3. Jesus raiment shone with the glory of lightening and exceeding “pure snow”. Peter, James, and John gained a sure knowledge that Jesus was the Christ. Shortly, after Peter wanted to make three tabernacles: one of the Lord, one for Mose, and one for Elijah. Joseph Smith taught that Jesus received a fullness of the priesthood on the Mount, a fullness to be ordained as “Kings and Priests”. Likewise, Peter, James, and John received priestly ordinances. “The endowments were first administered in Nauvoo on 2 May 1842, by the Prophet, in the Red Brick store, many years following the appearance of Mose and Elijah in the Kirkland temple.”

4. Joseph Smith Translation indicates that John the Baptist was present on the Mount. Three divine beings were on the Mount: Mose, Elijah, and John the Baptist. John the Baptist held the keys to prepare the way of the Lord and represented the voice of the people speaking out against tyranny. John the Baptist held the keys to overthrow the kingdom of Satan.

5. Joseph Smith said the mountain was a place of divine instruction, manifestation, and revelation. Instruction was given as the nature of the presidency and the power of the keys they possess. Peter, James, and John received the keys of the kingdom by the laying on of hands. Peter, James, and John received the keys of Presidency granting them power and author to preside and judge over the House of Israel.

6. Elohim voice was heard from a cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son: hear him”. The cloud veils Elohim away from the telestial world. Peter, James, and John saw a light and heard a voice. Elohim instructed Peter, James, and John to not only listen to Jesus, but too hear him through the divine revelation and the promptings of the spirit. Jesus was superior over the law. Jesus had the capacity to forgive because of the atonement and extend mercy to the unworthy. Jesus paid the price for all men and had the power to ransom them from Justice and escape the punishment of sin. The Holy Ghost provides the more sure witness that Jesus is the Christ than hearing a voice. The Holy Ghost burns within our heart and testifies of the truthfulness of the doctrines and divine beings.

7. Celestial glory consumes all telestial matter. Transfiguration was necessary to withstand celestial glory. Transfiguration is equivalent to the presence of God.

8. Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Mortal Messiah, God in the flesh. Power, authority, and the keys of the Kingdom make Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus had the authority to interpret the word of God. Jesus came to fulfill the words of the prophets. Jesus taught men to Love God and Love their fellow men as themselves.

9. Mark declares the transfiguration is the beginning of gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus came to save mankind. Jesus prophesied of his death and resurrection. Jesus also foretold that his gospel would be rejected, that he would suffer under the hands of unrighteous men, the holy city of Jerusalem would fall to conquers, the Jews would be scatter, `and his gospel would be restored at a latter time before the Great and Dreadful day of the Lord. Mose and Elijah would restore power, authority, and keys to Joseph Smith and the gather of the House of Israel and the sealing of parents to child would occur preparatory to the coming of the Lord.

10. People recognized Jesus as the Messiah by his “words and deeds”. People were amazed at the deeds and miracles of Jesus. After Jesus descended the Mountain, the people were amazed at the divine light that filled Jesus Countenance. A similar event occurred when Mose descended the Mount after talking with Jehovah, face to face.

11. The three apostles were charged to tell no man about their experience on the mountain until after Jesus’s death.

12. Listen to Jesus. The experience and events of the Mount of Transfiguration givse a foreshadowing of Christ’s second coming. In the last days, the earth will be transfigured, receive its paradisiacal glory, and its celestial inheritance.

13. We are willing enduring hardship to gain the knowledge that we are seal up to eternal life through the spirit of prophecy and power of the priesthood.
